Agri Ecologist (Wildlife Inspector Grade III)

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following post, Agri-ecologist, working in the Agri-Ecology Unit:

The Agri-Ecology Unit focusses on the significant issue of biodiversity and conservation in the context of agriculture, which is the dominant land use in Ireland, accounting for two-thirds of our terrestrial area. Agri-Ecology Unit undertakes targeted research, progresses applied conservation measures and informs national agri-environmental policy. The Unit engages with NPWS and Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage colleagues, the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine, Teagasc, farming organisations, eNGOs, members of the public and various stakeholders, groups and committees.

The appointee will be involved in the developing, testing, and delivery of bespoke NPWS farm plans; ad​vising on strategies to address biodiversity loss in agricultural systems including input into both EU and nationally funded programmes; inputting on NPWS contributions to the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan; working with regional NPWS staff to advise on agricultural issues; providing technical assistance to line management; facilitating projects and research and partnerships within the auspices of the Agri-Ecology Unit.

This appointment is to a permanent position on a probationary contract in the Civil Service.
