NPWS advises temporary closure of Slieve Bloom Mountains boardwalk
Date Released: Thursday, April 2, 2026
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage wish to inform visitors that the boardwalk at the Ridge of Capard, in the Slieve Bloom Mountains Nature Reserve has been temporarily closed to facilitate essential maintenance works.
Over time, natural wear and exposure to the elements have impacted parts of the structure and unfortunately the rate of deterioration has speeded up recently. To ensure the continued safety of visitors and to protect the surrounding sensitive habitats, with regret, we must close to undertake the works. We appreciate that this closure may cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely thank you for your understanding and cooperation while these improvements are carried out.
Visitors are asked to respect all signage and barriers in place. We will endeavour to complete the works as efficiently as possible and will provide updates regarding reopening in due course.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us protect and maintain this valuable natural amenity.
