April 2010 - Present
The NPWS Farm Plan Scheme was launched in 2006. To date 658 NPWS Farm Plans have been approved. Up to 10% of these plans are audited annually.
The NPWS Farm Plan Terms and Conditions Document was updated in 2010. The document outlines new procedures for both planners and applicants. Planners are expected to follow the recommendations outlined in the document. Accordingly a refresher training course was held for planners in September and October 2010 and NPWS Farm Planners each received a copy of the newly updated document. The final document is here. The NPWS Farm Plan Scheme was curtailed in April 2010 due to budgetary constraints. There has been no additional budget allocation from the national exchequer for NPWS farm plans in 2012. Consequently, NPWS has identified that there is no available funding to proceed with an open selection/screening process for new NPWS farm plans in 2012. When existing plans have run their 5 year term, they will not automatically be selected for continuation in the NPWS Farm Plan Scheme but will also need to go through the selection/screening process. NPWS reserve the right to approve new plans in exceptional circumstances, where there is an identified need to do so.
