Public Consultation

The National Parks and Wildlife Service of the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government has drafted an Action Plan for the conservation of Irish Cetacea and the plan is now available for public consultation.

The Conservation Plan for Irish Cetaceans PDF_icon [5MB] is now available for download.

This draft plan has been prepared as part of the requirement under Article 12 of the 1992 EC Habitats Directive (92/43/EC) to establish a strict protection regime for all cetaceans in the Irish Exclusive Economic Zone.  The plan has been drafted in consultation with cetacean experts in Ireland and the relevant statutory bodies following an extensive literature review.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service invites submissions from interested members of the public and organisations concerning the contents of this document.  Submissions should be sent by email if possible to natureconservation@environ.ie or by post to the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government, 7 Ely Place, Dublin 2 and clearly marked Cetacean Action Plan.  The deadline for submissions is Friday 27th November 2009.
